The "Center for Innovational Competence" (ZIK) innoFSPEC Potsdam is launched successfully. The strategic investment help the joint research center "Innovative Fiber Spectroscopy and Sensing" to a first-grade equipment. Several laser light sources, imaging, microscopy, and fiber optic equipment as well as high performance detectors have been put into service.

innoFSPEC and PhotonikBB. The new network PhotonikBB with the innovation field "measurement and sensor technology", including optical fiber spectroscopy, laser sensors, 3D measuring, and astrophotonics, provides the link between research and industry.

Two junior research group leader appointed. Dr. Roger Haynes from Sydney, head of instrument science at the Anglo Australian Observatory (AAO), will lead the group "multichannel spectroscopy". Dr. Oliver Reich from the University of Potsdam, responsible for photon density wave spectroscopy, will lead the group "Innovative Fiber Sensors".

First photonic experiments at the Calar Alto telescope in southern Spain. Martin Roth and Hans-Gerd Löhmannsröben connect a super-continuum fiber laser source to the 3.5-m telescope for calibration measurement.
